Pretty close, Lloyd.

sounds like a barely functioning open door sound from a NA Miata, although that isn't a Miata right?

No. It's possible it is a barely functioning "you left the keys in the ignition, jackass" alarm on my 240D, but I've never heard another one to reference whether it is working properly.

My W124 did not do that. It had other annoying sounds.

This is what the door chimes in Jeeps sounded like until the early nineties. As they start to let go they sound like a dying cicada, like ours in the second video.

I know that ignition. Yeah Merc didn't make a good key, they always break. I used sugru, or whatever it is, the moldable epoxy. I got new keys from the dealer and the plastic part is soooo soft! WTF Merc, can't you make a better key???
*You brought up one of my biggest gripes. Also why can't my 300D have an idle knob like the 240? Why does the air cleaner mount suck?

If you buckle the seatbelt it won't when you start it, but you can't lock the door without it so you would know pretty quickly. Pushing down on the air operated door locks is probably a really bad idea.

You actually can't push down the lock plunger when the door is open. Pretty neat stuff.

Reminds me of my dad's 86 Toyota 4x4. Not fun when the switch broke...

it sounds like the same one from a Miata if you've never heard it
